Kurseong - The Land of White Orchids
Kurseong is a tiny Hamlet on the Himalayas. In Lepcha Language Kharsang means ‘the land of white orchids’. Located at an altitude of 1458 Mtrs, Kurseong is just 32Kms from Darjeeling. Kurseong is a quiet hill town and it is the home of some of the most exquisite tea gardens producing high quality Darjeeling Tea. Makaibari Tea Estate, Castleton Tea Estate, Ambootia Tea Estate, Goomtee Tea Estate are to name a few of the famous tea gardens around Kurseong. Kurseong in nicknamed ‘the school town’ due to emergence of many reputed academic institutes in the town.
Kurseong is one of the oldest municipalities in the Bengal. Established as an independent Municipality in 1879, it did not become a Sub-Divisional town until 1890, when the District of Darjeeling was formed. Kurseong was a rest town and medical town during the days of the British Raj, with a tuberculosis sanatorium and various villas and bungalows. The toy train station is the nucleus of the town. The train tracks run through the length of the town.

- Ambootia Shiva Temple :
it is located in the Ambootia Tea Garden and Ambootia Shiva Temple in itself is a lifetime experience of scenic beauty.
- St. Pauls Church :
St. Pauls Church on Hill Cart Road is also a lovely sight to perceive while visiting Kurseong.
- Buddhist Gompa in Monteviot
- Eagles Crag :
Eagles Crag (Durpin Dara) - This viewpoint is seemingly perched on a cliff and one can enjoy a sweeping view of the surrounding landscapes. It also has a cafeteria, a watchtower and a flower garden; this place also houses the water reservoir for the town of Kurseong.
- Deer Park on Dow Hill Road :
This is on Dow Hill Road, The Deer Park in Dow hill area is a scenic region under the jurisdiction of forest management. Venturing inside the forest is prohibited. The park also houses beautiful cottages of the British Raj time. Bhangzang Salamander Lake is located 14 km from Kurseong. It is a beautiful lake, bordered by greenery that shelters the endangered species of salamanders.
- Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum :
This was the house of the elder brother of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose which now turned to a Museum and it also houses NSC Bose Institute of Asiatic Studies. The museum has a good collection of letters, rare photographs of Indian National Army (INA), memorabilia and personal belongings of Netaji and his family members.
- Chimney :
It is on the old military road, a road through the forest of Cryptomaria Japonica, which is now called Aranya Sarani.
